The customer
Etex Building Performance GmbH
The sector
Drywall construction
The solution
Comprehensive fire alarm system linked to the fire brigade
The challenge
Planning and installation of the fire alarm system in a very short space of time; comprehensive monitoring of large halls; installation while production continued
Description of the solution
Use of linear smoke detectors enables monitoring of a large area, yet significantly reduces the amount of cabling and installation work involved
„Thanks to the very close coordination, we were kept excellently informed by euromicron throughout. Even unforeseeable additional requirements were fulfilled at short notice – the sort of working relationship you always wish for.“

No expansion of sites without new buildings – no new building without cutting-edge security technology: That also goes for the drywall construction specialist Siniat from Lippendorf in the district of Leipzig. The subsidiary of Etex Building Performance GmbH not only added a logistics hall to its works campus, but also equipped new and existing buildings with leading-edge security technology at the same time. A key component in that was implementation of a fire alarm system throughout the plant.
It was to protect not only the cardboard box warehouse and logistics hall, but also the central production building, in which Siniat mainly manufactures plasterboards. The objective was therefore to monitor a total area of 17,500 m2 with cutting-edge fire prevention technology – which meant the sheer scale placed huge demands on the planners and installers. Further challenges were posed by the specific features of the buildings (the hall ceilings were 10 meters high, for example) and the need to install parts of the fire alarm system while production continued: Manufacture of the plasterboards also would not halt during the extensive fitting work. Planning, project planning and installation of the entire fire alarm system also had to be accomplished in the very short time frame of just five months.
The contract to implement this challenging project was awarded to euromicron’s system house company euromicron Deutschland GmbH.
The expert for smart buildings had previously cooperated with Siniat successfully in the field of fire prevention and carried out all phases of the project – from planning and project planning, installation and operation to maintenance work. A comprehensive system in which fires are identified by automatic and non-automatic fire detectors was implemented. The heart of the fire alarm system is three fire alarm panels with an automatic link to the regional fire brigade control center. euromicron Deutschland mainly installed linear smoke detectors, consisting of a sender and recipient. The sender emits invisible infrared (IR) light, which is returned by the receiver. A permanent IT beam runs between the two and if rising smoke weakens it, an alarm is triggered. The sender and receiver are mounted opposite each other and monitor a strip of at most 14 meters in width and 100 meters in length – which means areas of up to 1,400 m2 can be protected effortlessly by just one smoke detector; high hall ceilings are also no problem. As a result of this solution, euromicron minimized the amount of cabling and work involved in installation and so the new facility protection system was able to be accomplished without interruption to production.
Apart from the three fire alarm panels, a total of 28 linear smoke detectors, 30 spot-type smoke detectors and 37 manual call points will be used in the future; 9,000 meters of cable were laid all in all. The security concept is rounded out by an alerting solution comprising around 50 optical and acoustic signaling devices. The contract volume for euromicron Deutschland was €100,000.
“All deadlines were adhered to precisely, not least thanks to the fine punctuality of euromicron Deutschland and excellent choice of components,” sums up Jörg Langrock, Works Manager at Etex Building Performance GmbH. “Thanks to the very close coordination, we were kept excellently informed by euromicron throughout. Even unforeseeable additional requirements were fulfilled at short notice – the sort of working relationship you always wish for.” Steve Werbig, Project Manager at euromicron Deutschland, looks back positively at how the project went. “The fact that Siniat again chose euromicron demonstrates once more that we are seen as a reliable and innovative partner when it comes to cutting-edge building equipment.”
